I look over at the TV as I pour myself some cereal. Clips of those old superhero movies and war movies of years gone by flash. Oh, wasn’t he just an amazing actor…
“The star made his big break in the states as he played the villainous Loki of the timeless classics Thor and The Avengers. He was born and raised in…”
The TV droned, as images of Tom flashed across the screen. I didn’t even notice the bowl overflowing until Liz walked in.
“Mom, you okay? You look like you’re gonna cry…”
“Oh, nothing, hun. Just a really famous actor when I was younger just passed away. Nothing that big of a deal, right?”
“Whatever, mom. That’s cool.”
She looked down at her phone, chuckled at some text she received from one of her friends, and glanced over at the television.
“Wow, that Tom fella was pretty cute back in the day, Ma.”
Pretty cute.
Pretty cute.
All the blogs, the websites, the love from his fans, the endless hours fanning ourselves over pictures shot from a distance and pictures shot in a not-so-far-away distance. All the endless posts dedicated just to him.
I try to swallow some sobs without Liz realizing it. It’ll be embarrassing to have your grown daughter comfort you over some celebrity.
But that “some celebrity,” was my childhood.
“Hey Ma, you sure you are okay?”
“…Yeah, I’m fine, really. Go hurry up, or you’ll be late.”
“Yeah, gotta go and leave you with Tom. Seems that you’re experiencing some feelings there.”
“Yeah, I guess I’m getting some feels.”
“What? Mom, no one says that anymore.”
Oh, okay then. No one uses that language anymore, I get it.
“Tom Hiddleston was an idol, a legend, and the very definition of stardom. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, and his dedicated, loyal fans over the years.”
Idol. Legend. Stardom. Words that whirled in my head.
Family. Friends.
Dedicated fans. Loyal fans.
“‘I don’t think anyone, until their soul leaves their body, is passed the point of no return.’ Wise words from a wise man.”
I flicked off the TV. I sat at the counter, eating my cereal. I may have put too much cereal, but it’s fine.
It’s all fine.
(I’M SO SORRY FANDOM. I’M JUST EXPERIENCING SOME FEELS RIGHT NOW.)
(Inspired by what some writers have done out there about their own favorite actors.)
(…)
(Oh God, what have I done.)
OH GOD MY FEELS RIGHT IN MY FEELS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THIS WHEN THAT DAY COMES i hope it’s never
